BEHIND THE DESIGN WITH RAVEN
Progression from logo printed blanks to alluring all over sublimation, the ever changing industry of esports apparel is yet to settle on an industry norm. Perhaps the desire to stand out in a booming industry riddled with opportunity has persuaded owners and managers alike to bypass traditional design pillars in the quest for individualism.

Working with Lightning Pandas (hereafter LP) on their 2018 jersey was a refreshing task for the design team. Using texture inspirations from the past, the owners of LP wanted to incorporate tie dye in the end product. After much trial and error the design team decided on a tie dye silhouette at the base of the design with solid block colours (black & white) at the top of the design providing strong connotations to a panda.

synchronising with lifestyle fashion trends in 2018/19"

The windbreaker was the focal point of the entire 2018 collection. We wanted to use a texture that was synonymous with esports but also used frequently in lifestyle trends in 2018. Camouflage was the overwhelming favourite from a visual perspective and also ticking the boxes of the goals mentioned prior. During the design process we decided to use a new ‘pullover’ cut to better accentuate the juxtaposition of coloured texture and block colour, it also gave us the opportunity to develop our own capabilities as it was a manipulation of our existing full length zipped windbreaker found in the AW18 collection.
"WE LOVE THE CAMO DESIGN, THE WINDBREAKER WAS OUR STAPLE PIECE WITHIN THE
COLLECTION AND COULDN'T BE HAPPIER WITH THE WAY IT TURNED OUT"

The brief from LP was to produce two hoodies that were simple, yet still eye catching designs. We loved the simplicity of the snow hoodie right away and knew that we could use that as a foundation to build from. The block hoodie was inspired by the strong colour changes running consistent within the collection with the inclusion of the infamous LP yellow black and white.

To stay consistent with the range, we wanted to design two tees that contrasted in complexity but stayed true with the inspirations for the line. The box tee was a perfect addition to the snow hoodie, perfectly simple; the piece would make a perfect addition to any capsule wardrobe. The camo tee was something that at first we felt bared too much similarity to the windbreaker, but with time to reflect we felt we couldn’t ignore how eye catching the piece was and how much we loved it.
